Yesterday, the guy running the show at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Doug Boles, declared that it was May 0, 2018. It was a gorgeous day with chamber of commerce weather, but the most important factor was this: the stars and cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series were back on track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
I was lucky enough to be hosted by Ed Carpenter Racing as a guest for the day, along with two of my friends, one of which had never been exposed to racing before. I saw the draw of Indy affect him in his eyes yesterday as we explored the track. From the cars, to the pits, to the drivers, he was in awe of the sport yesterday, and that's kind of what May is all about, isn't it? The same feelings went through myself when I fell in love with the Month of May over a decade ago. This year will be my 12th 500, and I am already on edge for the 27th. There's still a Grand Prix, two qualifying days, and Carb Day yet to get through, and I am jolted for this race. There's a buzz around Indy about this new car, and it has promise of a good race with fast speeds.
So, ladies and gentlemen, sit back, relax, and enjoy one of the crazier Months of May in recent history. Bump day is back, the cars look sexy, and the weather is finally warming up. It is one of the best times of the year. It is May. Let's enjoy it.
